CBI will now investigate the Rupesh murder case of Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. The High Court has given this decision on the petition of Rupesh's mother. On February 6 this year, Rupesh was murdered during Saraswati Puja immersion. Rupesh's mother Urmila Pandey, while filing a petition for a CBI probe, had accused the Hazaribagh police of not conducting the investigation properly. He said that the police is protecting the accused in the incident.

Rupesh Pandey (18 years) was lynched to death during the immersion procession of Saraswati Puja on 6 February this year in Barhi, Hazaribagh. Protests were held across the state in protest against this. The government had shut down internet connections in 4 districts as a precaution. The team of Child Protection Commission also came to investigate the matter. Rupesh's mother had demanded the government to conduct a CBI inquiry into the murder of her son.

Rupesh's family is not satisfied with the police action so far. Rupesh's mother has alleged that the police is protecting the accused. After hearing both the sides, the High Court handed over the case to the CBI. This decision of the High Court is being considered a setback for the Hemant government of Jharkhand, which is currently on the target of the opposition regarding the Ankita murder case.
